Common Panic Attack Physical Symptoms
The physical symptoms of a panic attack can be so painful that people often fear that they are having a heart attack. Most people want immediate treatment and cannot understand that they need to identify the root cause of the problem before doctors can prescribe a solution. Anyone who has ever suffered a panic attack knows how scary the attacks can be.
However, just because a panic attack causes physical pain, this does not mean that the cause is of a physical nature. Because panic attacks are usually psychological in nature there is little that doctors can do. It is important to understand the physical symptoms that will accompany a panic attack in order to recognize whether you are suffering a panic attack or something more serious.
These are five of the most commonly experienced panic attack physical symptoms.
Physical Symptom 1 – Heavy Breathing
One of the first common panic attack physical symptoms is breathlessness. In extreme cases some people feel like they are unable to breath and will actually think that they are going to suffocate. From that, the person will succumb to other panic attack physical symptom such as fear and panic.
Physical Symptom 2 – Muscular Tension
The physical symptoms of a panic attack can include muscle tension. It is not hard for a person to overlook the symptom of muscle cramps as they are such a common complaint. Doctors can treat this symptom by using a technique called progressive muscle relaxation (sometimes referred to as PMR). In addition to relieving tension in muscles, PMR can also help to manage both the high stress and anxiety levels that lead to panic attacks.
Physical Symptom 3 – Head Pains
Headaches are also commonly associated with panic attacks. An estimated 66 percent of women and about 40 percent of men experience severe headaches. For some people, these panic attack headaches can turn into more painful migraines. This can make panic attacks even more painful.
Physical Symptom 4 – Sickness And Diarrhea
Whilst you are struggling with the stress and pain of a panic attack, the last thing you want to have to deal with is a gastrointestinal problem. This boils down to them having diarrhea, heartburn, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. Vomiting can often be caused by a person hyperventilating.
Physical Symptom 5 – Pains In The Chest
Chest pain is one of the most uncomfortable symptoms of a panic attack. In some cases this can be the first symptom to occur and be seen as somewhat of an early warning system. This can lead many people to mistakenly believe that they are having a heart attack.
There are there are a number of reasons why a panic attack can occur; underlying causes that can be difficult to detect. To get past the panic attack physical symptoms, it is imperative that you get to root of the real problem… the real reason for the attacks.
